Jenny Matthews

Scotland

I am an enthusiastic proponent of watercolour and my approach to the medium combines an interest in detailed work with abstract effects created by water and pigments. Spontaneity and colour are central themes, with an invocation of vivacity and joy. Flowers are my central theme and I search out both wild flowers in the countryside and cultivated in gardens. The plant world is a great passion for me, a passion which I endeavour to communicate through my paintings.

I studied Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art, UK, 1982-1986. Since then, I have been a professional artist and have had numerous solo and group exhibitions around the UK and abroad.

I have won 2 prizes at the Royal Watercolour Society (RWS) in London and regularly exhibit at the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW) and have led the Scottish group to FabrianoinAcquarello since 2017. I work from my Edinburgh studio and when the flowers are in bloom, I can be found painting en plein air.
