Anna Berezovskaya

Russia

When I was a child my parents worked a lot and very often I used to stay home alone. But in fact I’ve never been alone as I had paper, pencils and my mind filled with fantasies.
Thinking up things currently is my favorite practice. Observation over the life around and imagining are the sources for the new ideas.
Just a still life, landscape or portrait is not enough for me. Art for me are the stories and fresh view over usual things. That is a reason why my works are a poetry in the form of paintings; they are kind of metaphor, metaphors of life.
As for me the painting is not meant to educate; compared to the tactful conversationalist it is supposed to ask questions and let the viewer find the answer independently.

Description of the Work
“Calligraphy on a Water”
People practice on writing letters on the water - at first it seems pointless, because the water immediately blurs the letters. But the same is comparable to our experience and success. The letters are blurred, but the experience and skill are remains. Our success is a result of the everyday mastering hidden from the other's sight. It may be compared to the iceberg the top of which may be viewed but the huge block of ice is underneath the water…
