I prefer to paint out-of-the-way subjects or stories I stumble across while looking for material. I don't have to go far and often sketch ideas and incidental happenings in my sketchbook for further exploration. I prefer to work on sight, taking in the local surroundings' sounds, light effects, movements, and rhythms. Since I have known watercolor since age six, it is my preferred medium. Thinking of watercolor as a friend when I need one is helpful.
