The feathers and forest floor featured in this painting are all related to the Australian Parrot the Glossy Black Cockatoo. The fallen feathers are on a bed of Casuarina needles and pods and Eucalypt leaves. The casuarina is their main food tree and the eucalypt for nesting.
I live in a rural area surrounded by forest. In 2019 we experienced extreeme wildfires. The forests that these birds are dependant on were burnt. Before the fire I would see these birds flying overhead in the late afternoon returing to their roosting sites deep in the forest. I had not seen them for over four years, only returning now. I am deeply concerned in the direction our environment is going. WE ARE ALL VULNERABLE.
