Susan Sheridan

Australia

It’s often the quiet corner that attracts me. I enjoy travel to the open spaces of Australia, often camping in wilderness areas where I record in my sketch book the amazing contrasts the country displays. I seem to be drawn to the subjects containing water with the dancing reflections and life it attracts, and always the power of the line used in its many possible ways. Painting with watercolour is a shared process between the artist, the paint and the paper, all combining to have their say. The calligraphic lines, effects of light and life combine to convey a consummate picture of my experience. To me, the language and the power of the line and the over layering of transparent washes should bring the experience to the viewer as simply as possible and allow the imagination to flow.
I have been a member of the Australian Watercolour Institute since 1991.
