Poppy Balser grew up on the shores of the Bay of Fundy, and developed a lasting love of the ocean, built on much time spent on the seashore, observing the interaction of tide, weather and light.
She says: “I feel so fortunate to live where I do, near the ocean, surrounded by wild landscapes. I paint outside often to envelop myself in the natural landscape. Referring to my plein air sketches I make larger, more deliberate works in the studio. I work to capture and share my sense of delight and wonder, and to bring indoors the atmosphere and light of Nova Scotia’s coastal landscape. I have always lived within walking distance of the ocean. I understand that the remaining wild portions of our environment, ocean included, are precious. I center my paintings around showing what makes each place special. It makes me truly happy when my paintings of our local landscape get to travel to exhibitions across the country and the globe. I am delighted to share my view of home with the wider world.” Poppy Balser holds elected membership in the AWS, CSPWC, OPA and ASMA. Two of her watercolour paintings are held in the Royal Collection Trust, at Windsor Castle in the UK.
