Helen Eriksdotter
Sweden
Helen Eriksdotter made history in 2026 as the first Swede to win the AWS Bronze Medal of Honor in New York. Her medal-winning work was selected for a year-long museum tour across the USA (2026–2027). Her artistry is rooted in her background as a classical musician with degrees from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and The Juilliard School in New York.
Her creative process is a silent dialogue between music and paper; she always paints to classical music, letting the rhythm guide her brush. Music acts as a bridge, shaping the emotion and mood of the work. Each watercolor is titled after the musical piece she listened to while creating it, such as this entry, Lento (Jean Sibelius).
Inspired by J.M.W. Turner and cinematographer Sven Nykvist, she works alla prima on Fabriano paper to capture "Nordic Tonalism"—the fleeting moment where light and atmosphere converge. In 2026, she was also named a Top-Rated Artist at International Watercolour Masters and represent the Nordic countries at ECWS 2026.
