Franco Grobberio
Italy
Attracted by painting, he sensed at a young age that the world of images is his "secret garden", an alternative poetic existence parallel to everyday life. He visits major Italian exhibitions, reads books on aesthetics and art history, instinctively feeling an affinity with the surrealist masters Magritte and Balthus and with the metaphysician De Chirico. During this period he mainly paints in oil, sometimes in watercolor, more rarely he dedicates himself to etching. His painting is influenced by the influences of the masters who inspired him, however his is a domestic and very personal surrealism, imbued + with a dreamlike vein. If his early works are affected by the cultural influences of European realism with recurring themes such as suburbs of cities, workers and acrobats, in the following years his painting evolves towards a new figuration, in which new symbols are inserted, short stories halfway between the dream and reality inspired by lightness.
