Katarzyna Kmiecik

Poland

The works submitted to this competition form part of my ongoing exploration of light within the forest landscape. I am drawn to moments when illumination dissolves solid form - when trees become silhouettes, atmosphere becomes structure, and color carries emotional weight.

Working in layered transparency, I use watercolor to construct depth while allowing fluidity to remain present. Pigment disperses, edges soften, and luminosity emerges from within the paper itself. This balance between intention and surrender is central to my process.

Across these paintings, landscape shifts from physical location to sensory experience. Rather than documenting a specific place, I seek to evoke immersion - the sensation of standing within light as it filters, ignites, or dissolves space, transforming the familiar into something interior and expansive.
